    Working with young people: The value of youth work in the EU Executive summary About this study The history of providing youth work for young people varies depending on the Member State, but youth work is not a new concept in the EU and the landscape of youth work continues to evolve. A key message from people we spoke to is that involvement can be as much or as little as you want it to be (see also ‘Types of involvement’). They described a range of activities and tasks, most commonly attending meetings to give a patient, family or public perspective, and commenting on documents.

    A key element of the work was a patient and public involvement (PPI) exercise which sought to gain an understanding of young people’s perspectives of the findings and proposed policy changes. The following model shows different stages that young people may progress through as they increase their participation, involvement and responsibility. Awareness of these different stages is important in helping youth work volunteers and the youth group to design and use activities and projects that are suitable for different young people at.
